Scripture Reading: Mark 1:21-28

Jesus’ fame spread as a result of his demonstration of as-yet-unforeseen power. And it’s tempting, while reading this passage from Mark, to get drunk on the idea of appropriating that power for ourselves. Fortunately, this quote from Stanley Hauerwas provides the perfect counterpoint – it is when we think we control something that we can unintentionally let that thing run roughshod over our lives. So, with all this in mind, take sometime this week to consider the parts of your life you think you have under control, then consider how much those things determine your life. Write it down and determine to regain balance where necessary.
