episode 8:
Bittersweet Symphony

“That high priestly prayer for Christian unity, which [Jesus] revealed as a key to God’s mission on Earth, remains violently unfulfilled to this day. Why? Because… this particular longing of God is dependent on voluntary human obedience. In our determination to divide and our refusal to forgive one another, we (mere humans) deny Jesus an answer to His cherished prayer for unity.”

Scripture Reading: John 17:1-25

Today’s scripture is from the first part of a long prayer that Jesus prayed just before he was betrayed, arrested, and crucified. Now that you’ve read this passage, read the rest of the chapter to take in the full prayer. Meditate on it. Then consider the quote above and consider any ways you can help bring about the answer to Jesus’ prayer. They don’t have to be giant steps; small attitudes of the heart will do. Write them down and commit to doing them this week.
